Subject: Gang crime....

I'm a bit late to this, but nice work to the_goat for helping those old guys.

I find it scary what's happening in our country.

I'm pretty left wing me and hate "Daily Mail" style over-reaction. However I get really annoyed by stuff like that, scrotes stealing stuff, and people who refuse to work because they'd rather live on my taxes. Teenagers want to be treated like adults, so they should get punished like adults - all of this bilge about not releasing names etc...

Anyhow, nice work, the_goat

"You shouldn't go anywhere near blood without gloves. So many things can be caught from blood and it's not worth the risk."

Totally agree, thats why I put gloves on first. :o) Im just so glad I had a proper first aid kit in the boot, along with a box of sterile gloves.

"Teenagers want to be treated like adults, so they should get punished like adults"

Thinking back in the clear and calm of the next day I can see how dangerous a situation I was in, had they not run off. Had I hit or even hurt one of the little maggots, then im sure I would be the one the police were prosecuting, not them.

I don't in anyway condone vigilantism, but what can I do when the police aren't going to turn up for 30 minutes? All three of us could have been laying in the gutter bleeding to death after being stabbed!

In that case, can you give me your team before you do this next time?
2008-08-09 12:44:44
nah you're right dylan, he's a twunt :)

I've got a daydream about forming a county-based vigilante network with regional call centres. Phone 998, explain your problem, and summon a motley assortment of angry middle-England types in people carriers to beat the culprits down with umbrellas and walking sticks.

village-ilantes?

i should have referred to who should be hung, pheados, murderers and rapists, man slaughter should be abolished, because it is murder. i know dylanos is all for the 'hug a hoodie' thing, but it is not working, prisons need to feel like hell for the wrong doers so they have a deterrant, and the people who are specified above, murderers, pheados and rapists should not get a second chance, because they are likely to do it again and cause even more pain, please see sense.

Oh dear.

Firstly, manslaughter is not murder. Murder is intentionally killing someone and manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice aforethought.

Secondly we have a rehabilitative penal system not a punitive one per se.

Thirdly there is evidence to suggest that certain types of murderer, rapists and paedophiles are actually mentally ill and with treatment could be rehabilitated.

Fourthly, a phaedo is a philosophical dialogue by Plato, purporting to describe the death of Socrates, dealing with the immortality of the soul, and setting forth the theory of Ideas.

I'd like to see sense, but I don't. Harsher punishments don't scare of criminals. It never did, and probably never will. USA for example, has the death sentence. UK doesn't. Is there less crime in the USA than in the UK? Don't think so.

Also, if someone serves a certain time in prison, and he appears to be innocent at some point (it once happened to a person after he had allready served 26 years in prison! Check here) he can get recompensated. Someone who's been executed can not.
The execution of an innocent person has allready happened in the USA, at least 39 times, see here.

Besides, isn't the death sentence out of proportions? And even though we're speaking of murderers for example, doesn't the execution of these murderers turn the state into a murderer too?

an eye for an eye and all that, these days with the forensic technology, there can be no doubt of the murderer, if there is doubt, the person shall be detained untill further evidence is put forward, simple

So naive
2008-08-09 22:49:38
if they get caught, the little bar stools should be stoned.
2008-08-09 22:55:45
sounds like if you were in charge, you would give them free knives and all the drugs they want, noob.
2008-08-09 23:33:40
Guys - keep up the great discussion, but keep it civil :)

Completely agree with what you say apart from this:

Secondly we have a rehabilitative penal system not a punitive one per se.

I dont believe the British penal system rehabilitates many offenders effectively, all it serves to do is temporally remove offenders from the community that they commit crimes in.

I dont walk down the road and mug an old lady for two simple reasons,

1. It has been drilled into me that it is not socially acceptable by my parents
2. I would be scared of getting caught + sent to jail

If I had not had the social upbringing that I did, then point 1 may not actually be that effective. If the penal system is not a punishment, then point 2 is not that effective.

Then we come to the situation we are in today, where people are willing to rob pensioners (or randomly beat them up) as there is nothing to stop them!
